Abstract: Objective By analyzing the changes and disparities in the allocation of oncology beds in China over the decade from 2012 to 2021, this study aims to provide an evidence-based foundation for further promoting the development of regional cancer medical centers across the country. Methods Using descriptive analysis and the Theil index calculation method to analyze the allocation of oncology beds in 31 provinces across China from the perspective of population equity. Specifically, it examines the inter-regional disparities and intra-regional disparities in the distribution of oncology beds among the eastern, central, and western regions of China over the period from 2012 to 2021. Results The disparity in the allocation of oncology beds in China has shown a decreasing trend year by year, with intra-regional disparities being the main contributing factor. Among them, the eastern region exhibits the greatest disparity. Conclusion Efforts should be made to narrow the disparities in the allocation of oncology beds among the eastern, central, and western regions in China, so as to reduce the differences in cancer prevention and treatment levels, decrease the incidence of patients seeking medical treatment in other regions, optimize the allocation structure of oncology health resources in China, actively explore the construction of regional oncology medical centers, and promote the balanced development of the allocation of oncology medical resources in China. |
